EVENT : PROJECTARIAN’S YEAR OF FUR + NEW VIDEO

Projectarian's Year of Fur

Fur yarn is super scary, I totally agree with you! I avoided it for years myself because it was impossible to work with. But recently I’ve unlocked the secrets to making it easier and I’d like to share them with you! I can almost guarantee you’ll be able to crochet with fur after watching my video, but if you try my techniques and you still hate fur yarn, don’t worry because there are other great options for making your amigurumi look furry!

For the whole of 2022 I’m making all my designs fur themed; many of them will use fur yarn for crocheting with, but there will be some that use different techniques like latch hooking and needle felting. I’ll also be teaming up with top designers this year to bring you a series of various furry techniques to try and you won’t want to miss that, so it’d be a good idea to join my mailing list right now!

Aquila the Kitten | by Projectarian

The purpose of this year’s theme is to help crocheters overcome their fur phobia and try something new, in ways that are not too intimidating for those who’ve had bad experiences with fur yarn or have never tried it. The projects throughout this year will have varying difficulty levels so there’s something for everybody, and I’ll also provide extra resources like videos to help you build confidence.

I have just posted this video on my YouTube channel to equip you with all my secret hacks so you’ll be fully prepared to wrangle the fluffy patterns as they come!

You can try my techniques right now by downloading my Shuttle the Shongololo pattern for free and making the furry version of him, as seen in the video thumbnail.

There are more fluffy friends coming out soon, including Neptune the Pineapple Crab. He’s a hermit crab who flips inside out to become a pineapple!!!

Sequin the Poodle | amigurumi dog pattern with fur

ABOUT SEQUIN

Sequin is a star. Unlike regular poodles, Sequin’s act does not involve agility or tricks but rather, she is one of the most talented ballet dancers in the known universe. Her natural grace and elegance combined with boundless stamina and discipline have sky-rocketed her to the top of the ballerina halls of fame from a young age, where she remains unrivaled on her podium as the best ballerina alive today. Rumor has it that Sequin can magically turn herself into a liquid form when she dances, leaving her audience star-struck at the impossibly agile flow of her performance.

ABOUT THE PATTERN

his pattern is part of the Projectarian’s Year of Fur event, where all Projectarian patterns are fur themed for 2022. Sequin’s special furry feature is clearly her fancy hairdo. She can be made as different breeds of dogs by distributing the fur in different ways, leaving it longer, trimming it shorter or straightening it to mimic the type of dog you’re aiming to create; you can even omit the fur completely. This model is made in a rigid standing pose with a body that is crocheted in multiple pieces and assembled by hand sewing.

I hope you enjoy this project as much as I enjoyed designing it!

Bonbon the Anteater | small amigurumi pattern with silky fur

ABOUT BONBON

Bonbon the Anteater is your officially-appointed tour guide for the Bushy Tails Expedition. He’s set to take you on a magical adventure through the jungle to track down his beautiful and exotic animal friends so you can meet them! The first thing you’ll notice about your fancy little guide is his fabulous tail! Impeccably styled without a single silky hair out of place, this dashing little sprite knows the jungle like the back of his paw. He moves with surprising grace and nimble ease, flitting regally between branches, leaves and vines.

Somehow, Bonbon’s shining black eyes are hypnotic. With bedazzling charm, he turns to wink a beady eye at you before springing ahead, leading the adventure! You fall under his spell, allowing the swish of his tail to mesmerize you as you follow him through the underbrush.

ABOUT THE PATTERN

This pattern was written for the Bushy Tails Expedition CAL, hosted by Projectarian in collaboration with Airali Gray, Little Aqua Girl, Irene Strange, Lemon Yarn Creations, Natura Crochet and Pica Pau!

Bonbon is a small amigurumi designed in a rigid standing pose. The silky fur on his tail and front legs is made by needle felting with acrylic yarn, and he has smooth felted detail on his chest. This model is quick to make, the crocheted pieces work up fast and all the felting can be completed in about 4 hours. Assembly requires minimal sewing with only 4 pieces to attach (the legs). Everything else is crocheted in one piece; the tail is one with the body and the ears are crocheted on.

This CAL is part of the Projectarian’s Year of Fur , where all Projectarian patterns are fur themed for 2022.

Phoenix the Fox | life-sized amigurumi pattern

ABOUT PHOENIX

Meet the magical fox named Phoenix with sparkling eyes and icy fur. Phoenix was named after a probe that we sent to explore the water history of Mars in 2008, and he earned this name because of his magical water abilities. This fox-scout uses his special water senses to track down the life-giving liquid for all the creatures who live together in Astral Acres

ABOUT THE PATTERN

This pattern uses fur yarn for crocheting a soft and cuddly life-sized fox, large enough for children to use as a body pillow. The fox’s loose features are crocheted separately and assembled by sewing. Crocheting and sewing with fur yarn might be more challenging than regular yarn, but the advantage is that fur hides mistakes very well so perfection isn’t vital. Fur also works up fast due to its bulk, making quick work of large amigurumi like Phoenix.

To give yourself an easy time, be sure to watch my video on how to crochet with fur.

More about Projectarian’s Year of Fur and other furry projects here.

I hope you enjoy the pattern as much as I enjoyed designing it! Please share your WIPs , tag me @Projectarian on social media and use #PhoenixTheFox.

ABOUT AQUILA
Aquila is a crafty kitten, in both senses of the word. Her cunning is matched only by her artistic flair for decorating your living room with rainbows of yarn like spaghetti confetti. She’s smart enough to wait until you’re not looking, though – partly so that you won’t interfere with her creative process – but mainly  to surprise you when you come back, so she can enjoy your reaction of sheer joy at her most wondrous and artful gift to you.

ABOUT THE PATTERN
This pattern is part of the Projectarian’s Year of Fur event, where all Projectarian patterns are fur themed for 2022. Aquila’s special furry feature is needle felting, an optional extra you can use to totally transform your kitten into any specific type of cat!

This life-sized kitten is made in a rigid sitting pose with a body that is crocheted, mostly in one piece without extensive sewing. She has realistic eyes and a mouth that can open. Aquila can be customized to make different types of cats by using specific colours while crocheting, or by needle-felting a fur coat onto her once crocheting is complete – or even a combination of both.

COMMUNITY
During the CAL, you can post your pictures and share the fun with your fellow participants, by tagging your pictures with #AquilaTheKitten on Instagram and Facebook. You can tag me directly by using @Projectarian on social media; I would love to see your posts and interact!

DIPPER THE PLATYPUS PEAR | REVERSIBLE AMIGURUMI

She’s the newest addition to my Smuggle-Tuck Pets series, which is a collection of fruits with a secret critter hidden inside! Each pet is a reversible amigurumi and most of them can be made non-reversible too, like a normal plushie. Dipper is one of those, so you can make her as a stuffed, squishy platypus and make her pear as a standalone fruity plush too.

Dipper the Platypus Pear | by Projectarian

Dipper the Platypus Pear is also part of Projectarian’s year of Fur, and if you’ve been following along then you already know that all of my patterns for 2022 have been fur themed. Dipper’s furry feature is that she’s crocheted using fur yarn. If you’ve never tried it, now is the time to give it a go because this pattern is pretty stress-free and easy. Plus, I have a video on how to crochet with fur yarn more easily here.

Dipper the Platypus Pear | by Projectarian

I hope you’ll give Dipper’s pattern a go! She’s a quick one that works well for making gifts too. Share your pics with me on social media using #DipperThePaltypusPear or search the hashtag to see others’ photos of Dipper.

Thanks for visiting! If you’d like to read a story about Dipper, scroll on, otherwise I’ll see you again for the next project 🙂

PS. I’ve been pretty quiet around the internet because Instagram is my favorite platform, except the way it’s changed to favor reels makes it not fun to be on anymore, so I’ve been superbusy offline instead with all sorts of secret patterns in the making. Instagram is stifling my photos and I have no motivation to create reels as it would take up all my designing time to make decent ones, and would then have to be my new full-time job, so I’m in an in-between state where I’m not sure how to get my content seen. Send tips!

DIPPER’S STORY

Once upon a time in a galaxy far away lived a very sad platypus. Dipper’s heart longed to live in the Milky Way, swimming the starry rivers. All her life she hoped for nothing but a chance to somehow streak across the universe to the river she dreamt of.

One night, Dipper saw a shooting star. She closed her sad little eyes and wished desperately with all her heart that she could live in the Milky Way, “In the River of Stars” she whispered. She opened her eyes with a start, looking around to realize she had suddenly transformed into a pear and was dangling from a tree alongside other pears! “Shooting star, what have you done?” thought Dipper.

A mechanical rumble-hum nearby suddenly grew much louder as she turned to see the giant Pear-Picker2000 swing its many arms in her direction. In a flutter of precision, its steel pincers quickly stripped the entire tree of its pears. The pears tumbled into a basket carried by a F6WorkerBee who flurried them over to a waiting trailer as the pickers stripped more trees and bees filled many baskets.

In no time at all, the orchard was cleared of its ripe, juicy harvest and the pears loaded onto the Royal Jellybean Express for same-day export. Before Dipper could blink, the train shot off like a bullet and her eyes grew wide as the universe whizzed by in a streak of glitter.

With a pop, Dipper transformed back into a platypus and there she lay on a great bed of pears, wondering what that shooting star’s deal was, and planning what she’d say to it if they met.

After some time, when the train started to slow and objects came back into focus, Dipper caught sight of a sign that read, Orion Spur, 6 LM. Dipper gasped, “Orion Spur? We’re headed for the Milky Way! And we’re only six light minutes away! That can only mean – “ Dipper clambered to the edge of the trailer and peeped over. Her face sparkled as she cried, “There it is! It’s the River of Stars!”

As they drew nearer, she could hear the rushing of the wide, shimmering river, spraying vapour around slanting rocks, casting smoky rainbows of refracted glittering starlight.
Dipper waited tensely until the train reached Perseus Bridge. As they crossed over the sweeping expanse of rushing stars she took a running leap, as fast as her little legs could waddle, and flopped over the trailer’s side. Falling from the bridge, she felt stardust on her cheeks which sparkled now as she smiled.

Dipper’s body broke the river’s surface with a satisfying plop and in that very moment she became the happiest platypus who ever lived.

Little Dipper paddled out her life contently in the Milky Way’s River of Stars, right where she always belonged.

The end.

Dipper the Platypus Pear | reversible amigurumi pattern

ABOUT DIPPER

Dipper longed to live in the Milky Way and swim the River of Stars. One day she wished upon a shooting star and was magically transformed into a pear, hanging ripe on a pear tree in an orchard. At harvest time, this magical platypus-pear was picked, along with all the regular pears, and swept across the galaxy on the Royal Jelly Bean Express for delivery at Orion Spur, which, as everybody knows, is in the Milky Way. Dipper, who had turned back into a platypus by then, took a flying leap off the train gondola and landed in the River of Stars with a plop, where she lived happily ever after.

ABOUT THE PATTERN

This pattern is the third addition to the Smuggle-Tuck Pets collection and it’s part of Projectarian’s Year of Fur event.

It features the use of fur yarn for crocheting a platypus that can turn inside out to become a pear, as part of my Smuggle-Tuck Pets collection of fruits which contain a secret pet inside. The option is included for both models to be made separately and stuffed. The platypus and pear’s loose features are crocheted separately and assembled by sewing. Crocheting with and sewing fur might be more challenging than regular yarn, but fur also hides mistakes very well! To give yourself an easier time, be sure to watch my video on how to crochet with fur.
