Starting on the 10th of November, you can make 20 Christmas themed toys for FREE in the Holly Jolly crochet along on Instagram! If you just want to dive right in, check out my Instagram post and get to it! If you have questions, read on for all the nitty gritty details of how the CAL works:
ℹ️ HOW TO JOIN THE CAL
To join the CAL, you need to complete 3 steps: Follow @hollyjollychristmascal2, also follow all 20 contributing designers, and repost the CAL cover picture on your own Instagram account. Each step is covered in more detail below.
Step one: The CAL is going to be hosted on an Instagram account called @hollyjollychristmascal2. This account is currently public so that you can follow it in order to join the CAL. When the CAL begins on the 10th of November, the account will become to private so that only followers of the account can see the posts. Make sure you’re following the account before it turns private!
Step two: There are 20 designers in the CAL, each contributing 1 pattern. You need to follow all 20 designers’ Instagram accounts to be considered successfully signed up! Designers will be checking, so make sure you’re following all of them. See my post for a list of the designers to follow.
Step three: To post the CAL’s cover picture in your own feed, you can save the above image from this page and upload it on your IG feed as a post. If you prefer, you can grab the picture from my IG post, then repost it using a third party app like Repost. Or simply take a screen shot, then crop and upload it like a regular post.
? HOW DOES THE CAL WORK?
Once the hosting account turns private, entry is closed and the CAL begins! Every two days, a new pattern will be released on this private account which will post part 1 of the pattern. You’ll have 3 days to make part 1. To get the rest of the pattern, you need to post a story showing that you’ve completed part 1 and tag the designer so they can see you’ve finished. Then the designer will give you the rest of the pattern!
So, you have to participate in the CAL in order to get the patterns you want! You don’t have to make in all the designs, but for the ones you do want to make, you have to finish part 1 to get the rest of that pattern.
? WHAT PATTERNS WILL BE IN THE CAL?
This is a Christmas themed amigurumi CAL, so expect magical toys like elves, snowmen, reindeer and sweet treats! All the designs are quite small so that you’ll have enough time to complete them during the event. The designs are being revealed with their supplies lists over at @hollyjollychristmascal2, so head over to check them out.
?? WHO ARE THE DESIGNERS?
? CAN I STILL GET THE PATTERNS IF I’M NOT IN THE CAL?
Most of the patterns in the CAL will be sold in the designers’ own shops, so keep an eye out for them if you’re not in the CAL! My design will become available on Etsy, Ravelry and in my Projectarian Shop on the day that it’s released in the CAL.

? HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR MY PROJECTS?
@hollyjollychristmascal2 has already started posting some of the patterns’ supplies list so head on over to check them out and start planning your projects! All the patterns’ supplies lists will be posted on that account in time for you to prepare.

?♀️ … AND THERE’S ALSO A NO-NONSENSE POLICY! ?
Free patterns are great – you don’t have to pay for them, and designers benefit by using them to grow their following! It’s a win-win situation! Unfortunately there are also people who do try to ruin nice things for everyone else, so there are a few extra rules to take note of.
Participants will be expected to actively – well, participate in the CAL! It’s not just for collecting freebies, guys! If you make part 1 of a pattern, you will be rewarded with the rest of the pattern. (SCORE!!!) But if designers notice that you’re not finishing your projects and just collecting all the first parts of the patterns, they may choose not to share their pattern with you. On the same note, participants with new accounts and fake accounts will not be accommodated in the CAL. Participants who don’t follow the rules will be removed from the CAL. @hollyjollychristmascal2 has her boss-babe pants on she doesn’t take nonsense! All seriousness aside, the CAL is going to be loads of fun with Christmassy magic and I can’t wait to share my pattern with you!!! ?
