Welcome to Part 3 of my Frankenyarn project, where I 'll be showing you how to do the edge around your beautiful little squares!

Yarn Needed for Part 2 (Blocks)

Blocks: Frankenyarn – Mixed brands, mixed weights, mixed colours (278g)

Yarn Needed for Part 3 & 4 (Edge & Joining)

Edging & Joining: Elle Pure Gold, Double Knit, Titanium (150g)

Border: Elle Pure Gold, Double Knit, Honey (20g)

Border: Elle Family Knit, Margarita (50g)

Border: Kismet Yarns, Funky Stripes, Tiny Tots (50g)

NOTE:

My ball of Frankenyarn just happened to be 278g, which made 36 tidy little blocks. You can substitute this with any double knit yarn, which is the same as Light Worsted / 8ply/ 11wpi.

ABBREVIATIONS

• R = Row
• CH = Chain
• ST = Stitch
• SS = Slip stitch
• SC = Single crochet
• *…* = Section to be repeated
• DC = Double crochet
• Hk = hook
• Sp = space

GAUGE

Each block is 14×14 cm

Pattern: 22 rows x 22 stitches using the moss stitch

CROCHET INSTRUCTIONS

Start on any block made using the pattern found in PART 2.

R1: Join yarn with a SS into any corner ch space.

SC, ch1, SC in same space to make a corner.

*Ch1, sk next st, SC in next ch sp.* Repeat across the edge.

Make the next corner: SC, ch1, SC in same space.

You should have 11 ch spaces across the edge, plus another ch space in each corner (13 total).

Now work down the side of block, inserting your hook into the sides of the rows. Stretch your workpiece slightly to see the stitches clearly. Look closely at the stitches and note how they form a V (2 loops) on every second row. The V is marked in blue below, and the pink dots indicate where to insert your hook to work into these V's.

*Ch1, skip next row, SC into V of next row.* Repeat all across the edge up to the corner.

Make the next corner: SC, ch1, SC into the last ch sp (you are now working into your starting chain).

*Ch1, skip next st, SC in next ch sp.* Repeat all across the edge until you reach the corner.

Make the next corner: Working into your starting knot, SC, ch1, SC into same space.

Now work up the other side of block, inserting your hook into the sides of the rows. Stretch your workpiece slightly again to see the stitches clearly. Look closely at the stitches and this time note how they form a square hole on every second row. Every other row has a V (marked in blue). Work your stitches into the square hole. The square hole is marked in green below, and the purple dots indicate where to insert your hook to work into these holes.

*Ch1, skip next row, SC into next square hole.* Repeat all across the edge until you reach the corner.

Finish with a SS into 1st SC.

Round 1 is complete.

R2: SS into corner's ch space. Ch1. SC, ch1, SC in same space.

*Ch1, skip next st, SC in next st.* Repeat all across the edge until you reach the corner. Corner: SC, ch1, SC in the last ch.

You should have 12 ch spaces across the edge, plus another ch space in each corner (14 total).

Repeat on every edge and corner. Finish with a SS into the 1st SC.

Tie off.

The edge is complete!
