Me and my husband have just bought our very first little house!! It’s an oldie so we’ve gutted it and we’re in the process of fully renovating the inside. Perched on the top of a breezy jungle hill, within waving distance of whales frolicking in the Indian Ocean waves, we are more than excited to start our lives in it once the reno is complete!! I knew things would get crazy-busy during the building project so early this year I started designing several patterns in good time to still bring you content while being fully distracted and immersed in house design!! ?
Things have indeed become even crazier than we could’ve anticipated so although I haven’t been able to hang out with you on social media as much lately, Helium the Hippo is here and ready to keep you company while I’m hip deep in paint chips and mosaic tiles! I have prepared a whole herd of other fun patterns for you which are still coming this year to keep your hooks hot. Find me on Instagram to see what’s coming your way next.
Helium the Hippo is a crochet along, running from now until the end of September. You can sign up anytime from now until the end of the CAL, and after the CAL you’ll be able to buy the full pattern.
After killing myself to design Lunar the Lemur for just about the whole of 2020, Helium was an absolute walk in the park and I had the best time figuring out how to make him look fat, happy and just realistic enough. He came together quickly and easily, but really the best part of the whole project was researching pictures of baby pygmy hippos (I highly recommend everybody do this for health reasons ?). I am so excited to share the fun new shapes and techniques used in this model, I’m sure you’re going to enjoy making him!
I especially enjoyed discovering the interesting shape of a real hippo’s foot and converting that into crocheted bits to match. Face details are always fun to make but the fat rolls were too!! Honestly it’s tough to choose a favorite part of this project, I just loved every moment of designing Helium and I cannot wait to pass the fun on to you! I hope you enjoy him as much as I did!!!
Don’t forget to share your pics with me, I love seeing them all! You can post in my Projectarian group on Facebook to share your CAL progress as you go, or in Hooked on Sunshine’s FB group where you can also get dedicated pattern support. Of course you can always find me on Instagram too. Tag me @Projectarian and tag your pics #HeliumTheHippo on either platform ?
Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you in the CAL!
