Weighing in at nearly a kilogram, this baby behemoth is like a life sized hatching! But she’s a gentle giant:

And she loves cuddles!

After having the pattern thoroughly tested, I decided to rate it as advanced. Although there are some tricky bits, the purpose of all my patterns is to teach you something new, in easily-digestible steps. The team of testers range in their skill levels but they were all able to complete their projects, although a couple of them needed to ask a few questions along the way (which also lets me know where to add more helpful info into the pattern). Rest assured that if you have need help with any of my patterns, you can post your questions in this Facebook group for speedy, helpful answers: Hooked on Sunshine.

I designed Gravity last year for the annual AmurumiPatterns.net design contest but for so many reasons there wasn’t chance to release it until now.

Here’s the original Gravity with her new friend:

When I finally did get around to working up the pattern I tried to improve on her frill since I was never really happy with the first one. It only took about a million attempts to get the shape just right so that was very time consuming but I think it turned out great. I also ended up redesigning her body shape to give her a stubbier tail and better form over all.

The original Gravity also had felted eyes but I really wanted to put crocheted eyes in the pattern so that you wouldn’t need additional skills to make her. The pattern is already quite long so I didn’t want to complicate it even more with a full felting tutorial.

But! I thought it’d be nice to make a video on how to make her felted eyes, so hopefully I can make time for that soon. (On that subject I do have a video coming out soon, if you’ve been following along on Instagram you may have seen my plans in #TheTropicalJungleCat posts).

Life has taken some twists and turns that delayed my pattern releases quite a bit this year: getting married, going on honeymoon, moving, redecorating and having a broken laptop. Just as things settled down and I was close to being back on track, we added an unplanned member to the family! Say hello to Scallop the puppy!!!

She found me 2 weeks ago during a weekend away with my husband, and stole my heart. She was so malnourished and pest-infested and HUNGRY. It only took a few minutes for me to decide to keep her and it’s been a very eventful two weeks – rescuing a dog is hard work – but she is the sweetest thing! You can meet this adorable, 12-week-old beagle X africanis mix in my Instagram stories.
